Bhutakrit- saviour and protector

How does the mind actually work? The intelligent force behind the working of the mind is Rudra. See below for the connection.

“Yatovaa imaani ” iMtA shruti hogaluteyu ||

You are named Bhutakrit as you are the creator of Rudra. Rudra means one who can drive away the grief and troubles effectively. You only can clear the constant difficulties created by the lowly forces interested in causing harm . This is because You are the one who is completely in bliss , without dependence on anything or anyone at anytime. Not just that, You are the creator of all the prAnis(it means-who can engage in meaningful action). This is the way the Shruthis sing Your glory.

Rudra – rujam dravayati iti rudra, comes from the root word- ruja- which has many meanings. One of them is agony. Shiva drives away agony. How so? Madhwacharya’s philosophy , which most rational and real says, Rudra/Shiva is the controller of our mind. By seeking the grace of Rudra, knowing his capabilities one can be free from mis-conceptions and wrong attitudes which cause agony. All agonies arise because of the way we look at things. If we have a right attitude towards life, then misery is minimized. O Vishnu, O bhutakrite, You created this power, called Rudra, to save and protect us.”

“You are hence my savior and protector”

If one questions,”How is this possible?” And why should it be only Vishnu and not anyone else? The answer is ” We are talking not of just names, we are talking of the powers that the God we conceive of, possesses . He must necessarily possess these powerful attributes in order to create and sustain. From looking at the world around us, we see this happening. A new baby is born, a red rose blooms, a nightingale sings. Creation happens not just at the beginning when the universe was born, but every second. And to our rational minds, there cannot be a creation without a creator. If I display my handwork of a beautiful pot and say “I made it.” Then pat comes the question,”When did you learn pottery? What kind of clay do you use for this? Do you have the potter’s wheel? How do you operate it? How do you bake it? What colours did you use? ” These questions and many more.

Please think through this slowly and clearly.

“If an ordinary pot needs a creator with so much knowhow, then how much more knowledge and power would the creator of a baby, a rose, nightingale have? The methods of creation and the products are all unique in their own way. We may give birth to the child, but we do not know how the child came to take the form of the baby it is, beginning with one cell at fertilization! It is a wonderful and mystical fact. “

Here the great Haridasa saint Prasanna Shreenivasa dasa says,” You are complete in such great attributes ,fit to undertake such magnificent tasks and are doing this as an overflow of bliss. ” This is not just said by this saint, but he himself quotes from the Shruthis”yatovaa imaani..”.

I am a student of Madhwa's philosophy and a listener of the expositions of Shri Madhwa's works through my gurugalu Shri Bannanje Govindacharya .This blog is an attempt to express the jewels contained in those along with the verses of a Haridasaru, Shri Prasanna Shreenivasa dasaru . I speak on the verses of the Harikathamruthasaara to students at my place and in the nearby Turahalli Rayar mutt and also on skype. I am also into studying the Bhagavad gita closely with a small group, since the past year, the source of study being the expositions of Shri Bannanje .
